Sturridge can be England’s best striker, says Liverpool boss Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has told Daniel Sturridge that there is no limit to what he can achieve now he is playing regularly with Liverpool, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Sturridge scored his second Premier League goal in as many games as the Reds beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Villa Park on Saturday, adding to the winning goal he netted at Anfield a week earlier in Liverpool’s victory against Stoke City. The Villa goal was Sturridge’s 11th in his last 12 starts since joining the club in a £12m move from Chelsea.

Rodgers believes the knowledge that he is a key player at Liverpool – rather than on the periphery, as he was at Stamford Bridge – has combined with Sturridge’s talent to produce such fine goal scoring form. “Daniel has been here since January and strikers are judged on goals in games, and if you judge him on that his record’s very good,” Rodgers said.

It’s still very early and he’s a lot more to do, but there is absolutely no question he’s potentially the top English striker. He’s got all the tools to be that.

He’s come into a really special football club where the supporters have made him feel really welcome and he’s thriving on that…England are fortunate to have him because he’s a big, big talent.
