Suarez ‘refuses to play in Liverpool friendlies’

The Daily Mirror has claimed that Luis Suarez has told Liverpool he does not want to play in any more friendlies for the club until his future is clear.

Suarez was due to travel with the Reds squad to Norway to play Valerenga in Oslo, but withdrew from the group due to a foot injury picked up in training. The Uruguayan was sent for a scan by the Liverpool medical team, but after being spotted driving himself away from the club’s training ground, speculation grew as to the legitimacy of the injury.

Liverpool have two more friendlies scheduled before the start of the new Premier League season – on Wednesday against Valerenga and Saturday, against Celtic in Dublin. Brendan Rodgers’ side begin the league campaign at home to Stoke on August 17, two days after the deadline the newspaper claims the Suarez camp has set for the striker to get his move away from Anfield.

Suarez will miss the Stoke game – or the opener for whichever club he is contracted to by then – due to the suspension he was given for biting Branislav Ivanovic in April. The 26-year-old has served the first four games of the ban, with the final six still outstanding.
