Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has said that he does not expect the club to sign unsettled Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, for whom the Gunners have had two bids rejected, the Daily
Suarez was keen to speak to Arsenal after learning of their second offer, which triggered a clause in his contract. However, Liverpool are unwilling to sell the Uruguayan, despite his desire to leave, and value the player at over £50m.
Arsenal have targeted Suarez after losing out to Napoli in the race for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, with young French striker Yaya Sanogo remaining their only summer acquisition thus far, the 20-year-old having been signed from Auxerre.
And Dixon, who made over 600 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, believes a move to the Emirates Stadium for Suarez is unlikely. He said: “I think Rooney has a chance of going to Chelsea but I’m not sure about Suarez. I just don’t see him going to Arsenal to be honest. I think if he is going to go anywhere it will probably be to Real Madrid.”
Earlier this summer, Suarez publicly declared that he would relish the chance of playing for Real Madrid, but Arsenal, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season, remain the only club to have made a serious bid for the Uruguayan.
