Tottenham forward Dempsey linked with Everton switch

The Metro are reporting that Tottenham are ready to sell Clint Dempsey, with Everton looking like his preferred destination.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder will miss Spurs’ pre-season fixture at Monaco to fly out to San Francisco where the Toffees are based. The rumour mill was turning on Thursday evening with speculation linking Dempsey with a move back to his native America.

However it now seems that Dempsey could be staying in the Premier League with Everton. This claim comes just 12 months after he was linked with a £6m move to Liverpool; however since his move to White Hart Lane the Texan has not been a regular starter with Andre Villas-Boas and now seems to have slipped further down the pecking order with the addition of Paulinho and the imminent arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia.

Dempsey scored 12 goals from 28 appearances for Spurs last term, which is in stark contrast to the 50 strikes he claimed in his four years at Craven Cottage. Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been looking to bulk up his attacking options with Arouna Kone already coming in from Wigan.
