Tottenham new boy Soldado hopes to play with Real Madrid target Bale

Roberto Soldado hopes he will get the chance to play with Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur, the Guardian has reported, as Real Madrid continue in their attempts to sign the Wales international.

Soldado has agreed a £26m move to White Hart Lane from Valencia and will become Spurs’ record signing – setting a new record only weeks after the capture of Brazil midfielder Paulinho established a new most expensive player in the club’s history.

But Bale would become the world’s most expensive player if he completed an £86m move to the Santiago Bernabeu, although the transfer would also see at least one Madrid player – possibly Fabio Conetrao, the Portugal left-back – move in the opposite direction.

Soldado however hopes Bale chooses to stay at his current club, expressing his excitement at the prospect of playing with the prolific midfielder. “Bale is a great footballer and you can see the effort Tottenham are making to prevent him from leaving,” the Spain international said. “Of course, I want him to stay.
