Soldado has agreed a £26m move to White Hart Lane from Valencia and will become Spurs’ record signing – setting a new record only weeks after the capture of Brazil midfielder Paulinho established a new most expensive player in the club’s history.
But Bale would become the world’s most expensive player if he completed an £86m move to the Santiago Bernabeu, although the transfer would also see at least one Madrid player – possibly Fabio Conetrao, the Portugal left-back – move in the opposite direction.
Soldado however hopes Bale chooses to stay at his current club, expressing his excitement at the prospect of playing with the prolific midfielder. “Bale is a great footballer and you can see the effort Tottenham are making to prevent him from leaving,” the Spain international said. “Of course, I want him to stay.”
