With a deal failing to materialise earlier in the transfer window it now appears that Tottenham have reignited their bid to bring Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches to White Hart Lane, reports the
Spurs thought they had secured a deal earlier this summer, with Steven Caulker leaving for Cardiff, but their attempts were thwarted when Bucharest owner George Bacali intervened with the transfer in the last moments. Bacali, who is currently in prison, had called from the jail to reportedly tell Steaua manager Mihai Stoica: “Who are Tottenham? I am not a slave to anyone.”
However, the club now appear to have made an amazing turnaround with their stance after Tottenham came back in for the Romanian within the last 24 hours. Spurs are now waiting on a work permit for the 23-year-old, with it expected to be granted given the player’s 19 international caps for his country. Chiriches would further extend Spurs’ spending this summer, becoming their fifth signing and taking their total transfer outlay to close to £70m.
