Nemanja Vidic believes Manchester United will prove wrong those who doubt the Premier League champions’ ability to defend the title this season under the stewardship of David Moyes, Sky
United finished last season 11 points clear of Manchester City, who headed the chasing pack, but have largely been considered third favourites to top the table in the new campaign behind Manchester City and Chelsea after a summer of upheaval with the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and appointment of Moyes, and the club’s failure to land any of their main transfer targets.
Vidic however believes that far from being inferior to last season’s title winners, the United squad for the new season can be even more successful. “We won the Premier League last season, but I can still hear people asking ‘are we good enough?’ People are still questioning this team,” Vidic said.
“It seems like we have to prove something again,” the United captain added. “Well, it is up to us to do that. We have nothing against that, we just have to work hard and show that we are good enough. I am looking forward to this season and I think we will be better than last season.”
However, Vidic, a United player since a January 2006 move from Spartak Moscow, believes that given the huge outlay on players by Manchester City, perhaps Manuel Pellegrini’s side should indeed be considered the team to beat. “Given the amount of money they have spent over the last five years and the players they have they should definitely be favourites,” the former Serbia international admitted.
