Wales boss Chris Coleman will assess the fitness of talisman Gareth Bale, ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly against the Republic of Ireland, Sky
The Tottenham winger was again absent for the 1-1 friendly draw with Espanyol, and despite manager Andre Villas-Boas saying that he expected Bale to miss the Premier League opener at Crystal Palace on Sunday, the 23-year-old is still part of Wales squad.
Bale has been the subject of persistent speculation this summer linking him with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, Spurs insist that he is not for sale, and with the Premier League season just days away, they might not be keen on Bale playing a part at the Cardiff City Stadium, due to the risk of sustaining another injury.
Bale has been given 41 caps for Wales, and has scored 11 goals since making his debut in 2006 at the age of 16. He scored 26 goals for Tottenham last season, including 21 in the league.
