Arsene Wenger could sanction the £25m signing of Swansea City forward Michu, the
The newspaper claims Michu and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins have an agreement that the Spaniard will be allowed to leave for £25m, while manager Michael Laudrup could be willing to take the money for Michu now to bolster his squad further, rather than stand firm only to lose the player for less in a year’s time.
Michu’s contract runs until 2016 and Swansea will demand a substantial sum from the Gunners in return for the prolific 27-year-old. Michu, a £2m signing from Rayo Vallecano last summer, scored 18 goals in 35 league games last season. The signing of Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem could, however, convince Laudrup and Jenkins to take the money said to be on offer.
Wenger is also keen on signing Manchester City right-back Micah Richards, but it is not yet known what role City manager Manuel Pellegrini sees for the England international. The newspaper points out that in 2007 Richards publically admitted he would jump at the chance to play for Arsenal and he made only seven league appearances last season, falling behind Pablo Zabaleta in the right-back pecking order. But that was under Roberto Mancini, with Richards’ role under Pellegrini yet to be established.
