Unbeaten West Ham United take on Stoke City, who collected their first Premier League points under new manager Mark Hughes against Crystal Palace last time out.
West Ham will be disappointed not to have maximum points after failing to convert their dominance into goals against Newcastle United. It is their defensive solidity that has impressed, however, as the likes of James Collins and Winston Reid have only allowed one shot on target over their two games.
Stoke edged newly-promoted Palace last weekend, with two goals that were synonymous with Tony Pulis’ reign. It still remains to be seen if Mark Hughes will radically change their style, something which will not be achieved overnight.
For West Ham, Andy Carroll is again unlikely to feature as he recovers from injury, meaning Modibo Maiga should continue in attack. Alou Diarra is also missing after being taken off during Tuesday’s Capital One Cup win over Cheltenham Town and will miss much of the season. Joe Cole and Ravel Morrison are both in contention to start.
Kenwyne Jones has forced himself into the reckoning to start for Stoke after his hat-trick against Walsall on Tuesday. Wilson Palacios might also be rewarded with a start, while new loan signing Oussama Assaidi could make his debut.
