Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs believes that the Gunners have made a statement of intent by breaking their transfer record to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil, Sky
After a summer of frustration at the Emirates Stadium Arsenal paid £42.5m for Ozil, with the deal confirmed late on transfer deadline day. The German, who scored 27 goals in 159 appearances for Real, has arrived with the ambition of helping Arsenal to win their first silverware since 2005.
And Gibbs told Arsenal Player: “It is a statement to what the club want to do and what the club want to achieve It is something that everyone has been waiting for so now we have a big signing to help push us to the next level.
“He has got a clinical side to him and technically he is world class. He is going to create a lot of problems for opposition we come up against and hopefully he can continue the form that he had with Real Madrid.”
Prior to the signing of Ozil it had been another low-key transfer window for Arsene Wenger’s side, with Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini being brought in on free transfers and goalkeeper Emilio Viviano signed on loan from Palermo.
