Arsenal have launched an investigation into comments made by academy coach Mark Arber on Twitter regarding the arrival of attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, the Daily
On Monday, Arber implied that he had an inside knowledge of Arsenal’s transfer activity and negotiations, and that he had made a bet on Ozil signing for the Gunners, tweeting: ‘Lovely bit of 14-1 Mesut.’
The signing of the German for £42.5m was duly confirmed around an hour before the deadline, with the deal becoming Arsenal’s new record transfer and Ozil becoming their fourth and final summer signing after Yaya Sanogo, Mathieu Flamini and Emilio Viviano.
Arber, the son of an Arsenal scout, has had a long football league career with the likes of Peterborough United and Dagenham & Redbridge, and the investigation comes soon after the FA imposed a 21-month ban on Accrington Stanley Robert Heys after it emerged that he made bets on over 700 matches.
A Gunners spokesman said: ‘We take this very seriously and we are looking into it as a matter of urgency.’
