Arsenal to consider January move for Suarez

Arsenal have not given up hope of signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, the Daily Mirror has reported, and manager Arsene Wenger will continue to monitor the Uruguay international ahead of the winter transfer window in January.

Wenger has been given the go-ahead to make a second big-money purchase in January after the deadline day signing of Mesut Ozil, a £42.5m buy from Real Madrid. Wenger is understood to want a striker next after failing to land Suarez in the summer, while a late loan move for Chelsea striker Demba Ba collapsed. The former Newcastle forward was viewed as a stop-gap to provide competition for Olivier Giroud.

Giroud remains the only senior striker at the club, with Theo Walcott impressing in a wide berth, Lukas Podolski suffering a long-term injury and summer signing Yaya Sanogo yet to play for the Gunners. Wenger also has Nicklas Bendtner back after a loan spell with Juventus last season and Sunderland the season before.

Arsenal’s proposed move for Suarez depends on the player’s form between now and the New Year, and Liverpool’s stance on refusing to sell to a Champions League rival weakening in the same time frame.
