Everton manager Roberto Martinez is hoping to strengthen his squad in January, reports the Liverpool
Despite signing James McCarthy and Arouna Kone from Martinez’s former club Wigan Athletic for a combined total of £19m, Everton ensured that they made a profit by selling Marouane Fellaini and Victor Anichebe to Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion respectively for a combined fee of over £30m.
Man Utd could renew their attempts to sign left-back Leighton Baines in the January window but Martinez expects to be active himself as he looks to improve his side, who are the only remaining unbeaten team in the Premier League after five matches with two wins and three draws.
Martinez said: “We’re in the position where we’ve got a bit of money to try to improve the squad for the next window and we’re going to do that from window to window. We have to because I’m sure next time the question will be ‘who we are going to lose now’, so improving the squad goes without saying.
“We have got a little bit of money and will always carry on trying to identify targets that can help the group. That will never stop and it will be the same in the window coming.”
