Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes Jose Mourinho’s team must beat Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday after their shock home defeat to Basel in the Champions League, the
The loss to the Swiss side came only days after Chelsea lost to Everton to confirm the London club’s worst start to the domestic campaign in a decade. Chelsea have seven points from their opening four games, three points adrift of early pace-setters Liverpool, and lost their 10-year, 29-game unbeaten home record in giving up the lead to Basel.
Cahill said: “We need to win our next game now, as simple as that. The manager will stress that. We’ve got the squad to do it, we need to go on now and get back to winning ways on Saturday.”
Chelsea have now gone three games without a win, drawing with Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup, losing on penalties, in the fixture immediately before the international break, and recording two defeats in the games that followed. The Telegraph suggests that Chelsea also have to win their next European game, against Steaua Bucharest, to maintain their chances of escaping the group stage.
Cahill’s teammate, John Obi Mikel, added: “With the calibre of players that we have here I don’t think we should be afraid of anyone. But If we play the way we did on Wednesday, we have a chance of losing to anyone we play.”
