The hostilities between Liverpool and Manchester United will be renewed on Sunday, as the two meet at Anfield in only the third week of the new Premier League season.
Liverpool have made a rare 100% start to a season, after narrow league wins over Stoke City and Aston Villa, and victory over Notts County in the Capital One Cup. Manager Brendan Rodgers will have been concerned after being taken into extra time in that tie, and seeing three players suffer injuries, most notably Kolo Toure. Daniel Sturridge has shown superb form, however.
David Moyes will be happy with the start that he has made, and a victory here would be massive for him after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson. Robin van Persie, who scored in both games against Liverpool last season, has continued his excellent form of last season, and he will surely test the Reds’ depleted backline.
For Liverpool, Toure is likely to be replaced by Andre Wisdom or Martin Skrtel, who has just recovered from injury. Lucas, Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson and Phillipe Coutinho should all return to the starting XI.
Reports on Sunday say Wayne Rooney will miss the match due to a head injury suffered in training, while a move to Chelsea now looks unlikely. Meanwhile, Ashley Young could be given his first start of the season for Man Utd.
