Liverpool’s Johnson in early return from injury

Liverpool have been handed a boost after right-back Glen Johnson revealed on Twitter that he is likely to return from injury sooner than initially expected, Sky Sports has reported.

Johnson was forced off with an ankle problem following a heavy collision during his side’s victory over Manchester United on September 1, and left Anfield on crutches. The injury forced him to miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker taking his place.

The 29-year-old was originally anticipating a 10 week lay-off, but he now believes that he will be back sooner. He tweeted: “Injury doesn’t seem as bad as first thought. Hopefully be back sooner than originally expected! Thank you everyone for the ‘get well’ messages!!!

The Reds will be without Johnson for Monday’s Premier League encounter with Swansea City, along with midfielder Joe Allen and loanee Aly Cissokho. However, they are hopeful that Daniel Sturridge, who has scored all of their league goals this season, will be fit despite the striker also missing international duty.
