Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he made an enquiry to sign a young English player during the summer. Despite Mourinho not revealing who the player was, it is rumoured to be Blackpool star Thomas Ince, reports the Daily
After coming through the youth system at Liverpool, Ince joined Blackpool in 2011, and has become one of the standout players below the Premier League, scoring 28 goals in 91 appearances. The 21-year-old refused a move to newly-promoted Cardiff City in the summer after he became a father.
Mourinho made five attacking signings during the summer as Christian Atsu, Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle, Marco van Ginkel and Willian all arrived at Stamford Bridge. However, he missed out on his main target, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
And Mourinho believes the price of the player he was after was unrealistic. He said: “I like a young player, a young English player. The market is closed but I asked a question to position myself to see where he was.
‘We are speaking about a very young player but his price was like he has 50 caps when he had none. The price for English players is very high, the market is very difficult.”
While Ince is thought to be the player targeted, Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, and Derby County midfielder Will Hughes have also been mentioned after showing promise at their current clubs.
