QPR boss Redknapp sets sights on Tottenham’s Adebayor

Queens Park Rangers manager is interested in bringing unsettled striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Loftus Road from former club Tottenham, ITV Sport is reporting, although he admits there is little chance of such a deal coming to fruition.

As he was at Manchester City, Adebayor has been cast aside at Tottenham, with manager Andre Villas-Boas making him train with the reserves, with little prospect of an imminent return to the first-team.

Used in a rotation policy with Jermain Defoe last season, Adebayor often produced lacklustre performances, with just five goals scored in 25 Premier League outings. And Villas-Boas has since responded with the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia for £26m.

Redknapp signed two Tottenham players on transfer deadline day, with Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Tom Carroll arriving on season-long loans, joining former teammate Jermaine Jenas in West London. And Redknapp, who brought Adebayor to White Hart Lane in 2011, hopes to add the Togolese striker to that list.

He said: “He’d be a great loan, that’s for sure. I don’t know what will happen with him. He’s a good player but it’s up to Tottenham, they have lots of good players. He can’t go on loan in the Premier League, he can only go into the Championship but whether he’d want to do that – it would be difficult I think.
