Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that as many as seven clubs are in contention to win the Premier League this season, the Daily
Wenger’s side currently lead the Premier League with 15 points from a possible 18, having chalked up five straight wins. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur sit second and third respectively, although defending champions Manchester United have struggled, picking up just seven points.
This season was billed as potentially the most unpredictable of Premier League seasons, and Wenger thinks the race for the title is as open as ever. He said: “We have a chance but it is very open.
“Let’s just try and keep going. You can add Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton to the top four [of Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and ourselves] it will be very interesting.”
Wenger, the Premier League’s longest-serving manager having been in charge of the Gunners for 17 years, also said that in contrast to previous seasons, the leading clubs will need to perform close to their best on a consistent basis to win games.
He added: “What has changed compared to years before is that at 80 per cent you will not beat any team in the Premier League. You have to be at least between 95 and 100 per cent and that promises a very interesting season.”
