Southampton v West Ham – Premier League preview

After both team suffered disappointing defeats in games they felt they could of won, Southampton and West Ham will be looking to avoid falling not a slump as they head into this possible close affair.

After making a steady start to the season Southampton found themselves on the wrong end of a defeat going into the international break. Mauricio Pochettino has strengthened a squad that performed well on its return to the top flight last season, and will be hoping record signing Daniel Osvaldo can combine with his other players to ease the pressure on man in form Rickie Lambert.

West Ham too succumbed to a one nil defeat, at home to Stoke, and many felt their performance was well below par. Main man Andy Carroll will be sidelined for another spell having been injured on his way to regaining fitness, but the club have brought informer Fulham man Mladen Petric who could be an interesting signing if he discovers some form.

The Saints have very little injury concerns to worry about, with only pair Jos Hooiveld and Guly Do Prado suffering from illness and therefore have question marks over their fitness.

The aforementioned Carroll will definitely miss the trip to St Marys with a foot problem, while Alou Diarra also remains side-lined with his on-going battle against knee injuries. There are concerns over Joe Cole and Stewart Downing, who have hamstring and leg problems respectively.
