Sturridge ruled out of England World Cup qualifier

England’s preparations for their up-coming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine have suffered a blow as Liverpool’s in form striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of the Moldova match with a thigh injury. The front man has been ruled out of Friday’s qualifying match at Wembley after his sore thigh prevented him from training all week.

The Guardian are claiming that the 24-year-old had played through the pain in his side’s Premier League win against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday. The forward, who has scored in all of the Reds’ matches this season, was reported to be keen to play in the Moldova fixture. However after his rehabilitation meant he has been unable to train, Roy Hodgson has now released the player back to Merseyside for further tests.

Sturridge will be recalled to the national fold over the weekend for more assessments ahead of the crucial trip to Kiev. The injury will come as a hammer blow to the striker, whose exceptional early season form has seen the Reds climb to the summit of the fledgling Premier League table.
