Arsenal have become favourites in the race to sign their former captain Cesc Fabregas, after bookmakers Paddy Power backed them at 5/6 to bring the Barcelona star back to the Emirates Stadium, reports the Daily
Manchester United made several attempts to sign the 26-year-old during the summer, seeing two bids rejected, the second of which in the region of £30m. However, they are now priced at 3/1, a long way behind Arsene Wenger’s side, with Bayern Munich 16/1, despite the Arsenal boss ruling out a new offer for Fabregas earlier this year.
Arsenal sold Fabregas to the Spanish giants back in the summer of 2011 after eight years with the club in which he scored 56 goals in 298 appearances. Since arriving at Barcelona, he has found the net 31 times in 106 matches, as well as becoming much more of a regular in the Spain starting XI.
Fabregas also praised Arsenal’s record signing, Mesut Ozil, who moved from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day for £42.5m. He said: “His style is nailed on for Arsenal.
“It’s a league with a lot more spaces and he is a player that, with [such] spaces, can kill you. We have seen it with Real Madrid. He has a brilliant final ball and in the Premier he will enjoy it a lot.”
