Arsenal can win Champions League, says Dortmund boss Klopp

Borussia Dortmund Coach Jurgen Klopp believes Arsenal – his side’s opponents on Tuesday – can go all the way and win the Champions League this season, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Klopp is banned from the touchline for the match after being charged by UEFA for his conduct during Dortmund’s loss to Napoli, but the 46-year-old is so looking forward to the contest he revealed he would have paid for a ticket to see the game – and he makes the home side favourites. “They have more points [than us], are in first place in one of the strongest leagues in the world and are at home, so they will be the favourites,” Klopp said.

But I think these will be two close games and some of the small things will decide what will happen. If I had to pay for a ticket, then I think I would pick this one. As a supporter this is one of the most beautiful types of football to watch.

Who is strong enough to be champions in the Premier League is of course strong enough to go to the final of the Champions League. Now they are back in the race [for titles] and we want to stop them,” he added.

Arsenal currently lead the Premier League by two points following their weekend win over Norwich City, while Liverpool, who had previously been level on points with the Gunners, could only draw with Newcastle.

Klopp went on to say that Arsenal’s deadline day signing, Mesut Ozil, could prove to be the difference between Arsenal teams that have failed to land trophies in the past and this current line-up. “They are first in one of the strongest leagues in the world,” Klopp noted.

Two or three months ago everyone wanted Arsene to spend £80m – then he took Flamini for nothing, a good idea, and then Mesut. This team missed one player and maybe it can be Mesut?
