Arsenal concerned after Ozil limps out of Germany win

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been given a headache by the final World Cup qualification fixtures after Gunners playmaker Mesut Ozil had to be substituted with an injury in the final 10 minutes of Germany’s win over Sweden, ESPN has reported.

Germany had already sealed their place at Brazil 2014 before travelling to group runners-up Sweden, but despite the game being a dead rubber – as Sweden could not finish lower than second – it was played in a furious spirit. Sweden took a two-goal lead but Ozil pulled one back before half-time, setting up a riotous second period.

Five more goals were scored after the break, the majority of them going to Germany as an Andre Schurrle hat-trick inspired a 5-3 victory, with Mario Gotze also on the score sheet, teed up by Ozil. But Ozil had to be replaced before the final whistle by Schalke’s Julian Draxler, and rather than taking his place on the bench, the former Real Madrid player went straight down the tunnel and was visibly limping.

Arsenal resume Premier League action on Saturday, with Norwich City the visitors to the Emirates Stadium. Ozil has played every league game since his transfer deadline day move from Madrid, with the Gunners currently top of the table on goal difference from Liverpool.
