Everton travel to Villa Park on Saturday to take part in the latest installment of English football’s most played top-flight fixture.
Aston Villa are finding wins hard to come by at home, with Tottenham the latest team to take home all three points from the West Midlands in a game where chances for Paul Lambert’s side were few and far between. Their away form is keeping them in mid-table, but the return of Christian Benteke from a hip flexor injury could represent the boost they need, as his replacement, Libor Kozak, has been largely ineffective.
Roberto Martinez continued his fine start as Everton manager with a hard-fought win over newly-promoted Hull City, although they did ride their luck, with Gareth Barry involved in some of the game’s more controversial moments. The Toffees currently sit seventh, just four points behind leaders Arsenal.
Other than Benteke, whose battle for supremacy with Romelu Lukaku on the day will be interesting to watch, Villa welcome back defender Ciaran Clark from illness.
John Heitinga is a doubt for Everton after picking up an injury in training, while Darron Gibson is a long-term absentee. Steven Pienaar could return to the starting line-up after scoring the winner from the bench last time out.
