Chelsea right-back Cesar Azpilicueta insists he has no problem with manager Jose Mourinho’s rotation policy, Sky
The presence of Branislav Ivanovic has meant Azpilicueta has had to make to with only sporadic appearances, such as in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday against Arsenal when he capitalised on a Carl Jenkinson error to score the opening goal of the game, his first for the Blues. But it was only Azpilicueta’s seventh outing of the season, with only three coming in the Premier League.
“I know the manager plays with Branislav Ivanovic this season and I am not getting a lot of games, but I am still happy at Chelsea and feel I have the confidence of the boss,” Azpilicueta said. “The season is still young and we will need everybody to win all the trophies we are targeting.
“I didn’t play much when I arrived at Chelsea from Marseille last year either, but by the end of the season I played practically every game,” he added.
Azpilicueta eventually made 48 appearances for Chelsea, first under Roberto Di Matteo and then compatriot Rafael Benitez, helping the club to a fourth place finish in the league and success in the Europa League.
“I’ve had the chance to play two League Cup games this season and I also started against Schalke in the Champions League so I am happy with the work that I’m doing,” he continued. “The manager knows that when he needs me I will always try to do my best for the team in any position he asks me to play.”
