Chris Coleman’s Welsh side travel to Belgium for their final World Cup qualifier of an unsuccessful campaign, with the hosts having already booked their place in Brazil.
Wales do deserve a lot of credit for their victory over Macedonia on Friday, after being decimated by injuries. It was also a hugely important result for manager Chris Coleman, who openly admitted after the game that he would have been sacked if his side had lost, in which case Wales would have been almost certain to finish bottom of Group A.
It would be a fine achievement if Wales manage to take any points from this game against the runaway group winners. Belgium’s qualification was secured on Friday with an impressive win in Croatia, thanks to two goals from Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku. It promises to be a major test for a largely inexperienced Welsh side.
Lots of attention will be on Craig Bellamy, as this game marks the end of his international career, in which he has scored 19 goals in 74 appearances. His experience, along with that of James Collins and the creativity of Aaron Ramsey will be crucial if Wales are to get a result without key players such as Gareth Bale, and regular skipper Ashley Williams.
