Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla has admitted he was shocked at the news Mesut Ozil was joining the club from Real Madrid, reports the Daily
Cazorla has declared he was not only shocked at Ozil signing for Arsenal, but because Real Madrid let the German star leave the club too. “I was amazed, but not only with the fact that he had signed for us. I was also surprised that Madrid had allowed him to leave,” Cazorla said.
“He is a fantastic signing for Arsenal, a great player who has come in with humility and a desire just to help the team but he is a different player and there is a touch of genius there sometimes,” the former Malaga player added.
Cazorla, who was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season 2012-13, is currently recovering from an ankle injury that has kept him out of the Gunners fantastic start to the season, but hopes to be playing alongside Ozil again soon.
He said: “It was a blow when I was told I would be out for over a month but that is when you need to be patient; let’s see if we can cut down the recovery time.
“We are delighted with the start we have made. We have started well both in the League and the Champions League.”
Ozil, 24, scored his first goal for Arsenal in the Champions League against Napoli at the Emirates, and is yet to lose a game with his new team. The Germany international scored for his country on Friday against Ireland, as Germany ran out 3-0 winners, confirming World Cup qualification.
