Real Madrid will off Chelsea £15m for Brazil midfielder Ramires in the January transfer window, the
Ramires moved to Chelsea from Benfica in 2010 when Ancelotti was Blues manager – for what proved to be the Italian’s final season at the club – and Ancelotti is understood to be keen to add more energy to his midfield at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Ramires fitting the bill.
There are said to be doubts over the long-term fitness of Xabi Alonso, potentially creating a gap in the squad for a box-to-box midfielder and Madrid will test Chelsea’s resolve with a £15m approach. Should Ramires move to Spain, Alonso would then be allowed to leave for a cut price – with former club Liverpool a likely destination.
To date Ramires has made 160 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 26 goals, having spent a single season with Benfica before his move to the Premier League. He began his career at Joinville and came to prominence with Cruzeiro, winning his first international caps while still playing in Brazil.
Ramires has gone on to make 33 appearances for his country and was part of the squad that claimed victory in the Confederations Cup this summer. He also has an FA Cup winners’ medal, and medals from Chelsea’s victories in both the Europa League in 2012-13 and the Champions League the season before.
