As Jose Mourinho sees his Chelsea side pick up momentum, their toughest test yet comes on Sunday as Manchester City visit Stamford Bridge carried by the in-form Sergio Aguero.
Chelsea are starting to look like the side everyone expected under the Special One’s return – unbeaten in seven games in all competitions and currently scoring their fair share of goals. What is an even more encouraging stat will be Mourinho’s record at Stamford Bridge. In 64 league games he has overseen 50 wins and 14 draws – impressive to say the least. Yet another good sign for the Blues is their strikers all seemingly hitting form, with Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o all performing well recently.
Away form seems to be the Achilles heel of Manchester City. Last weekend’s victory at West Ham saw only their fourth win on the road in 12 Premier League games, losing five and drawing three more. While it seems the stats are against them City do have a good recent record against Chelsea, winning seven and drawing one in ten meetings. However, they have only won once in 15 trips to Stamford Bridge coming three years ago as Carlos Tevez and Craig Bellamy scored twice to beat the hosts 4 – 2.
Ashley Cole could be fit for Chelsea having missed the previous two games and international break with a rib injury. Gary Cahill was preferred to David Luiz midweek and will hope to maintain his place.
Captain Vincent Kompany remains injured for City with a thigh problem. Martin Demichelis is not yet fit enough to make his debut for City after suffering a knee injury.
