Chiriches sees Tottenham as Chelsea stepping stone, claims agent

The agent of new Tottenham Hotspur signing Vlad Chiriches has told a Romanian media outlet that his client intends to use the White Hart Lane club as a stepping stone to Premier League rivals Chelsea, the Daily Express has reported.

Victor Becali claimed that Blues manager Jose Mourinho has been tracking Chiriches since his time at Real Madrid, and expects Mourinho to sanction a move for the centre-back after a few years at Spurs. Tottenham signed Chiriches in the summer transfer window from Steaua Bucharest, the club Chelsea dispatched 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches,” Becali told Sport.ro. “Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid,” the agent added.

Tottenham’s move for Chiriches was delayed due to a problem over the 23-year-old’s work permit but Andre Villas-Boas clinched the signature of the Romania international, handing Chiriches a Spurs debut in the Capital One Cup match at Aston Villa. Chiriches played the full 90 minutes of the 4-0 win, with a brace of goals from Jermain Defoe and one each for Paulinho and Nacer Chadli sealing the comfortable win.
