Martin Jol faces a huge game at home to Stoke City on Saturday as he attempts to remain as Fulham manager.
A bad end to last season, and just four points gained from their opening six matches this time around has put Jol under severe pressure, and the supporters are beginning to lose patience. The late defeat to Cardiff City was a cruel blow, but generally the performances have been poor, with several players not fulfilling the quality they appear to possess going forward, and Dimitar Berbatov has yet to score in the league this season.
Jol’s opposite number, his predecessor Mark Hughes, also has issues to contend with after his side’s awful performance at home to Norwich City, where they were deservedly beaten. After what looked to be a good start, the tight nature of Premier League means that they now lie down in 15th position, three points ahead of the Cottagers.
David Stockdale will continue in goal for Fulham with Maarten Stekelenburg still sidelined by a shoulder injury. Scott Parker might be fit despite being forced off against Cardiff, if not, Giorgos Karagounis is likely to take his place.
For Stoke, Jonathan Walters is the only real injury concern, and should he miss out it would end his excellent run of Premier League starts, stretching back over two and-a-half years.
