Fulham’s Richardson backs manager Jol

Ahead of Fulham’s trip to fellow strugglers Crystal Palace, Cottagers midfielder Kieran Richardson has insisted that manager Martin Jol is not to blame for the club’s poor start to the season, Sky Sports has reported.

Fulham did end a five game winless run last time out, as Darren Bent’s late strike was enough to seal victory over Stoke City, a result which took them out of the relegation zone and four points ahead of Monday’s opponents. However, Jol has still come under pressure from sections of the support after several disappointing results including late defeats to Newcastle United and Cardiff City.

Despite the discontent, Richardson has offered his support to the Dutchman, praising his man-management. He said: “He’s got great man-management skills, he’s a great coach, his understanding of the game is top drawer. Since I’ve been in the game he’s definitely up there as one of the best managers I’ve been around. He’s managed top clubs. What initially attracted me to Fulham was the manager.

“I do believe and think all the players believe he is definitely the manager to take us forward. He’s under a little bit of pressure at the moment, but a win on Monday and we’re on 10 points and we’re mid-table and everyone’s silent.’

This is Jol’s third season in charge of Fulham, having led them to ninth and 12th placed finishes. Victory at Selhust Park would lift them up to 14th.
