After dropping points away to Newcastle United, Liverpool return to Anfield to meet a West Bromwich Albion side that did the double over them last season.
Although Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez again linked up well in a partnership which seems to be blossoming, Liverpool struggled defensively in the absence of Lucas Leiva as Newcastle exploited the space between the midfield and the centre-backs. Brendan Rodgers will be mindful of the fact that his side have not kept a clean sheet since he began playing with three central defenders.
If the formation remains the same, West Brom might see it as an area that they can exploit, with the pace of Saido Berahino and Stephane Sessegnon in the attack. Steve Clarke’s team were unlucky to come away with only a draw from their visit to Stoke City last time out, where several chances were missed and a penalty decision went against them. With more of a clinical edge, the Baggies might fancy their chances of another win at Anfield.
Liverpool have been handed a boost with the return of Lucas, who has missed the previous two games, although playmaker Philippe Coutinho will not recover in time to play a part.
For West Brom, goalkeeper Ben Foster is still absent, so Boaz Myhill will continue to deputise. Zoltan Gera, and loanee Scott Sinclair are also on the sidelines.
