Vincent Kompany will undergo a scan on his groin, the
Kompany played little over half an hour of the 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium before he was replaced by Matija Nastasic. It is another groin injury for the Belgium international, the newspaper notes, but not in the same area as the previous problem which saw Kompany miss much of the start of the season – rather, the 27-year-old has suffered an inflamed muscle on this occasion. But the fact Kompany was still in pain more than a day later has raised alarm bells at City and the fear is he has suffered a groin strain.
Formerly of Anderlecht and Hamburg, Kompany moved to Manchester in 2008, signed by Mark Hughes. Kompany eventually became City captain and led the side to an FA Cup win in 2011 and success in the Premier League in 2012, and to date has made more than 200 appearances for City.
Kompany also has over 50 caps for his country, having made his senior international bow as far back as 2004, as a 17-year-old, against France. He has also captained the national team on a number of occasions.
