After two straight defeats, Manchester City will be looking to return to winning ways when they host unbeaten Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Manuel Pellegrini has been given plenty to think about after his side’s last two outings. A dominant performance at Aston Villa proved in vain as they were let down by their finishing – particularly in the first half – and their hesitant defending, before they were outclassed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Joe Hart’s form is a bit of a worry for Man City, while the defence in front of him continues to look vulnerable.
Everton, who have won three league games in a row, should provide stiff opposition. Romelu Lukaku inspired them to victory over Newcastle United on Monday with a fine individual performance, and if this form continues, there is no reason why the Toffees cannot challenge for a Champions League place. They will fancy their chances at the Etihad Stadium, a venue where they have enjoyed good success in recent years.
David Silva made his return from the bench on Wednesday and could be handed a first start since August, and there could also be recalls for Alvaro Negredo and Pablo Zabaleta.
For Everton, Kevin Mirallas picked up a knock during the week and is doubtful along with Darron Gibson. Gareth Barry is unable to face his parent club, while Steven Pienaar misses out through injury.
