Man Utd still Premier League title contenders, says Arsenal boss Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United can still challenge for the Premier League title, Sky Sports has reported, despite David Moyes’ side sitting eighth in the table after a stuttering first eight games.

The Gunners are top of the pile with 19 points from their opening eight matches and went two points clear of the chasing pack by beating Norwich after Liverpool could only draw at Newcastle. United, meanwhile, were held at home by Southampton, and have only one league win at Old Trafford so far this season, from four home fixtures.

But Wenger does not feel the title is definitely out of United’s grasp. “It is too early. They are not out of the title race,” he insisted. “You cannot rule Man United out today. They have big players, big experience and they are a big club. The gap is three games basically that is very quick in our league.

United claimed last season’s title by an 11-point margin from Manchester City, with Arsenal 16 points back in fourth place. It was the last title for Sir Alex Ferguson as the veteran handed over to Moyes, formerly of Everton, at the end of the season.
