McClaren targets Derby loan for Liverpool’s Wisdom

Derby County manager Steve McClaren is close to signing Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom on loan, reports the Daily Telegraph.

McClaren, who took over Derby in September, is keen to strengthen his side with the addition of 20-year-old Wisdom to his defence.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be happy for Wisdom to gain some first team experience, having appeared in only two Premier League matches this season. The England Under-21 defender has made a total of 22 first-team appearances for the Reds and has represented England at Under-16, 17, 19 and 21 level.

Former England manager McClaren is also looking to bring in West Bromwich Albion midfielder George Thorne, who could be included in this weekend’s home match against Birmingham if the deal is completed for the 20-year-old.

Iain Moody, who was controversially suspended from Cardiff City last week, is being lined-up by Derby to take the head of recruitment role at the club.

McClaren’s side are currently eighth in the Championship after 12 matches, the Rams are the league’s joint top scorers with 24 goals, but only four teams have conceded more than Derby’s 20.
