Park loan move from Arsenal to Wigan in doubt

Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young was on the verge of joining Championship side Wigan but the move has collapsed because the Latics cannot afford his wages, writes ESPN.

Park was set to join up with Owen Coyle’s side ahead of their tie with Blackpool on Saturday, but the move broke down as the striker’s £3m a year wages were too much.

The South Korean has made just one league appearance for Arsenal since arriving at the Emirates in 2011, and was keen to complete the loan switch to the DW Stadium.

The 28-year-old was shipped out on-loan to Celta Vigo last season where he made 21 appearances for the Spanish side, scoring three goals.

Park is hoping to be picked for the South Korea squad for the World Cup in Brazil next year, but feels game-time is vital and a lower league side may be more convenient for the striker. Park has a respectable record for his country, having scored 18 goals in 26 games for the Under 20s, 12 goals in 29 for the Under 23s, and 23 goals in 61 matches for the senior side.
