Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping to have several first team players available after the international break, reports Sky
Rodgers’ side will host Crystal Palace on Saturday ahead of the final round of World Cup qualifiers, with a trip to Newcastle to follow when the Premier League resumes on 19 October. Rodgers will be looking to call upon Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho and Joe Allen for the trip to St James’ Park.
Johnson has not played since picking up an ankle injury in the 1-0 win over Manchester United on September 1, while Cissokho and Allen have been out of action with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively, suffered in the Capital One Cup match with Notts County in August.
“Glen’s out on the field and hopefully after the international break he’ll be ready to come back into the squad,” said Rodgers, who added he is not overly concerned by the injuries in the squad. “We’re okay. Aly Cissokho has trained over the course of the last week or so, so I think after the international break he’ll be fine and fit. Joe Allen likewise – he should be ready for the Newcastle game.
“Coutinho will not be long after. Obviously Sebastian Coates will be that bit longer and has a bit more to do yet, but apart from that we’re getting back to our numbers now.
Liverpool are currently two points behind league-leaders Arsenal in the Premier League, having lost just one game this campaign. Rodgers’ side have only conceded four goals this season, as they take on a Palace team who have only scored four goals since their arrival in the top tier in August.
