Carlos Tevez has called on his former Manchester United teammate Nemanja Vidic to leave the Premier League champions and join him at Juventus, the
Vidic’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with an early switch to Turin, in the January transfer window. Manager David Moyes has said he intends to sign Vidic to a new deal but Tevez is hopeful that the Serbian will follow him to Serie A.
“Vidic should join Juventus – he’s very suitable for the Italian league,” Tevez said. “He’s very strong and a very good defender. I played with him at United and then against him when I moved to Manchester City.”
Juventus could also make a Bosman approach for Vidic but face competition from other clubs on the peninsula as Milan and Roma are both understood to be considering a move for the Serbian.
United have put a two-year contract on the table for the 31-year-old and will increase Vidic’s wages as well, but the centre-back is said to have admitted a desire to play in Italy one day.
Vidic has been at United since January 2006, moving to England from Spartak Moscow, having started his career at Crvena Zvezda. He has played almost 275 games for United, scoring 18 goals.
