Liverpool defender Daniel Agger believes the short journey to Everton will lead to a difficult game when the Merseyside rivals meet at Goodison Park on Saturday, Sky
The Reds go into the game in second place, with the Toffees three points behind in sixth, and Agger does not feel the game will be any less competitive now Everton have replaced David Moyes with Roberto Martinez.
“It’s about three points and they are the ones for us hopefully”, Agger told Bold.dk. “It is always tough and intense fighting,” he continued. “But that’s that They’ve had a really good start. There is a new manager and a slightly different style of play. They have a solid team and they have had that for many years, but they are off to a good start.”
Last season’s local skirmishes both ended in draws, the first game at Goodison finishing 2-2 after Everton came back from two goals down to level the scores by half-time, and the late season meeting at Anfield going goalless.
Agger added that despite Liverpool staying close to league leaders Arsenal, it is too soon to say who will be in the title mix-up come the end of the season. “It is hard to say [who the favourites are],” he insisted. “We have to go through a little more of the season. Once we have played all the teams it will perhaps be a little easier to say.”
