Arsenal are Champions League contenders, Klopp insists

Borussia Dortmund Coach Jurgen Klopp believes Arsenal are potential Champions League winners, Sky Sports has reported, after Arsene Wenger’s side recorded a victory at the German club’s Westfalenstadion.

Klopp added, however, that drawing the holders of the tournament, Bayern Munich, could be terminal for the Gunners’ chances – and the boss is speaking from experience having taken Dortmund to last season’s final, only to lose to their Bundesliga rivals.

When asked if Arsenal can win the whole competition, Klopp replied: “ Yes. They are young, healthy and good technicians. They won a clever game tonight and could go to the final and win it – as long as they don’t play against Bayern Munich.

An Aaron Ramsey goal gave Arsenal victory in Dortmund to take the Premier League side to nine points in Group F, three clear of Dortmund and level with Serie A side Napoli, who beat Marseille 3-2. Klopp however remains confident Dortmund will progress to the knockout stages, with games against Napoli at home and a trip to Marseille to come.

It is difficult after the game, but you have to look forward,” Klopp said. “It is a very strong group and the positive news tonight is that two wins and we will qualify.
