Walcott has missed the Gunners’ last 10 games with an abdominal problem that needed a minor surgical procedure after the complaint flared up prior to Arsenal’s match against Stoke City. He was forced to miss England’s two final World Cup qualifiers as well as a run of games for his club.
A minor setback has seen Walcott already out for longer than expected and although the Champions League game with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday has come too soon for the former Southampton player, he could be ready to face United this weekend. The 24-year-old has remained in London while his teammates have travelled to Germany in an attempt to step up his training and be ready for the visit of the champions.
Arsenal go to Dortmund top of Group F despite losing to last season’s runners-up in their last European fixture. A late Robert Lewandowski goal condemned Arsenal to defeat and left the group delicately poised, with Arsenal, Dortmund and Napoli all on six points.
