Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sent his scouts to watch Dundee United’s Ryan Gauld on Friday evening, the Daily
The Gunners’ scouts will be joined by representatives from Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton, who have all previously observed the 17-year-old’s performances this season for Dundee United. The interested parties will be watching the youngster, dubbed ‘Baby Messi’, in action against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup fourth-round tie.
In a television interview on Thursday, Gauld was quick to play down comparisons to Lionel Messi. “I don’t think anyone will ever be like Messi,” he said.
“The stuff he can do with a ball is a joke,” Gauld continued. “I just wonder how he does the things he does. It goes through your head to try it and then you say: “No, I’m not good enough.””
The teenager continued to impress last Saturday, having assisted all four of the goals during a 4-1 win at Partick Thistle, helping United to fourth in the Scottish Premier League table.
