Arsene Wenger is monitoring the fitness of Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund, Club
Gibbs’ calf is the main cause for concern after he had to be replaced in the 78th minute of the 2-0 win, with Thomas Vermaelen coming off the bench to fill in at left-back. Wilshere meanwhile missed the game with an ankle problem, although Wenger confirmed it is not a long-term injury.
The manager added that he could not yet give a time frame for Gibbs’ recovery. “Honestly, it’s too early to say. Gibbs looks muscular – that’s not good news,” Wenger revealed. “It is a calf problem, I don’t know how bad it is.
“Jack had a little ankle inflammation and maybe he will be better,” Wenger added. “We have to wait until Monday. It is not long-term.”
Arsenal go to Dortmund top of Group F on goal difference, one of three teams of the four to have claimed six points from three games. Dortmund and Napoli are the others, with Marseille bringing up the rear having yet to register a single point.
