Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo believes being able to communicate in his native tongue with Sergio Aguero is the key to his impressive start in the Premier League, ESPN
Negredo claimed a hat-trick as City qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League with a 5-2 win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, with Aguero scoring twice and teeing up one of Negredo’s goals. The treble means Negredo now has five goals in three games and the former Sevilla striker credits his understanding with Aguero for his form.
“It’s been very good from the first day, and especially with both us speaking Spanish,” the summer signing said. “We understand each other well.
“He’s a great player and it’s easy to get along with great players,” Negredo continued. “From the first moment we did well together and with him, Edin Dzeko and myself, when we play, we understand one another.”
Negredo however insisted he would not rest on his laurels following his European hat-trick; instead he is aiming to maintain that prolific form as the season goes on in order to help City achieve their goals this campaign.
“I’m happy to score goals,” he said. “For a striker it’s a big part of the game, I am delighted to get three so quickly in a team like this and let’s hope I can get a lot more – that would be a good sign for everybody.
“A big club like this has to aim high,” Negredo added. “The team failed in the last two seasons [in the Champions League]. We didn’t want the same again, the manager wanted to do well and thanks to the team’s efforts, and the coach’s work we’re doing well and have qualified two games ahead of schedule.”
City are currently fifth in the league table with 19 points from 10 games, six adrift of league leaders Arsenal. They travel to Sunderland on Sunday, with the Black Cats second bottom but coming off the back of a Capital One Cup win over Southampton on Wednesday.
