Tottenham captain Michael Dawson is focused on clinching a top four Premier League finish this season as Spurs travel to Manchester City on Sunday, TeamTalk
Andre Villas-Boas’ side travel to the Etihad Stadium sitting seventh in the Premier League, with City one point behind in eighth. Dawson is aware of the threat City pose, but is adamant that Spurs have the players to be fighting for a top four spot this season. “I think Man City are a top team,” Dawson said.
“They won the league two years ago and some of the players they have, they want to win the league,” Dawson continued. “Our aim is to be in the top four. Things don’t change and we are still striving for that.”
Tottenham have struggled to find the net so far this season, with Sunderland and Crystal Palace the only two sides who have scored fewer goals than Spurs, but Dawson is confident the squad has more potency in it than has been seen to date.
He added: “We have got players in that dressing room that will score goals, Jermain [Defoe], Robbie [Soldado], Ade [Adebayor], we have got players who can play in the 10, Christian [Eriksen], Gilfy [Sigurdsson], Lewis [Holtby], players who will score goals and I believe we have top players who will score plenty of goals going forward.”
Spurs have been defensively sound this campaign, having only conceded six goals in the Premier League, only Southampton, who have one of the best defensive records in Europe, have conceded less. Villas-Boas’ men lost 1-0 to Newcastle United at White Hart Lane last time out, and face both Manchester clubs in their next two fixtures.
