Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes Luis Suarez is the best player he has ever lined up alongside, ESPN
Brendan Rodgers’ side are currently in third place, five points behind Arsenal after losing to their Gunners in their last Premier League fixture. They are however in the Champions League places as things stand, level on points with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, who are second and fourth respectively.
When asked if Suarez was the most talented player Gerrard had ever played with, his answer was unequivocal. “Yes. Simple. He’s out on his own,” the skipper replied. “The only player who comes close to producing what Luis produced in a red shirt is Fernando Torres… but Luis just pipped him for me.”
Gerrard added that while he was concerned over the summer that Suarez could leave Anfield, he is much more relaxed about the winter transfer window that will open in the New Year. “I don’t feel like that about January,” Gerrard said. “January will be different because I think Luis is committed.
“I think he is happy. I think he is pleased with the decision he has made to stay around,” the captain continued, referencing Suarez’s initial desire to leave Merseyside over the summer and eventual decision to stay at the club despite interest from Arsenal.
“He is in good form,” Gerrard went on. “The team are playing well so I think January won’t be a problem. But come the summer, I think depending how Liverpool have done will determine what goes through Luis’ mind.”
With a top four place the aim, according to Gerrard, Suarez’s contribution is expected to be crucial. “He is the key,” Gerrard admitted. “His goals, his performance and his form will be the key whether we finish in the top four or not.”
